I have had photoshop starter edition 3.0 on my computer and I have downloaded all my pictures to save them.?However, my computer had crashed and I now, can not retreive them because photoshop starter edition is asking for an unlock code which I do not have.?However, I can see the photos on the programme but can not access them.?Please can you help??

I'm working on a Fireworks file with 25 pages and some heavy graphics. However, I've turned some of the heavy objects into symbols which are repeated from page to page.
The file is 17 Mb and my Virtual Memory bumps to 3.4 Gigs when I open this file and things are slow and often crash. I'm working on a Mac with CS4 and have 4 Gigs of RAM. The actual ram is 2.27 GB. Seems like a crap ton of Ram? Plus it's running slow and crashes regularly.
Please advise if there are settings I can change to improve the performance.
RAM and Virtual RAM Problems with...Wow! Why so many pages? It's pretty unusual for a web site to have 25 different ones. Most of the time you would just be designing an index page and a sample content page.
RAM and Virtual RAM Problems with...I usually do a lot of the inner pages because we take care to design all the primary inner pages so that we know what the layout will work like and how the user will experience things like signing up or paying for something.
Is there a reason that FW could not handle 25 pages? Do you have any suggestions for the RAM issue or anything else with files of this size?

I am having some trouble exporting a 90 sec. video in the format the client has requested--?a Quicktime Pro Res HQ file.?All of my working footage was 1280x720 Pro Res HQ to begin with.?However, in the export settings, all the presets take the resolution down to 720x480.?I can choose a custom setting, but Premiere wants to automatically change the resolution to 1280x853.?Also, I have Quicktime Pro with the Pro Res codec installed on my computer, but Premiere isn't showing it in the list of available codecs. (Is this just an Adobe vs. Apple issue?)
I can choose Quicktime/custom in the export settings with a generic ''video'' codec, but I have no reason to believe this is exporting as a Pro Res file and I am also getting terrible color banding in everything that is supposed to be a smooth tone.
Does anybody have some thoughts on what to do?

I've got a long document I'm working with in CS4, and I'm trying to put cross references throughout for page numbers. It's a fairly straightforward process, but the page numbers aren't showing up. Paragraph text shows up just fine if I select that option, but paragraph numbers do not display either. I have a different document that is the same original source file, but different content, and the problem is duplicated there. However, if I just cut and paste the content into a new document, the page numbers show up just fine. I'm figuring that there must be something in the document settings or pagination settings or something that is causing this problem, but I've been searching around for a while and can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even just of the ''have you tried looking here?'' variety.

I thought I knew how to optimize images.?I was taught to use the Export Wizard in FW to not reduce the dimensions, but the size.?For some reason, this doesn't seem to be working for this site.?I am testing all the pages with this free tool someone showed?me and it's giving me a ''too slow'' or ''way too slow'' status.?Maybe I'm not optimizing them correctly using the Export Wizard??I just choose JPEG or GIF or whatever and then save it.
Any ideas to reduce the images would be so helpful.

Optimizing imagesOn the logo, the red border will cause the image to be larger, as GIFs are ''run length encoded,'' the number of pixels in a row that are the same color. Since you're placing that image on a red background, anyway, you don't need the red border.
For the images with the drop shadows, the background color you've placed them on doesn't match your page background, so you should change that. Other than that, I don't know what you could do to make the images smaller. I like going through File %26gt; Image Preview and playing with the settings until I get a good quality image.
On the can_logo, you would probably have better results optimizing that as two images, a .jpg for the photo and a b%26amp;w .gif for the actual logo. Then, maybe stick them together in a table. You could probably add a black border to the table in fewer bytes than it takes to draw it in pixels on the image. Again, since that image is on a red background, you don't need those pixels in the image at all.
I think that testing site is out of touch. It seems to highlight the 28.8k modem as the download speed of concern. While I know not everyone is on broadband, I would start with a 56k modem and not concern myself with the 14.4k at all.
One other small point. The background texture looks greenish, when compared to your red sidebar and the gold in the backgorund of the logo. You might want to adjust it. Here's a png with a solid rectangle of the logo gold and a greyscale version of your background image, with various blending modes. You might see if you like one of them better than what you have. (Or tell me to jump in the lake! )

I changed the bg color of the main content after I created the images on a white bg.?I tested it, and couldn't see the difference.?How do you catch these things?! :-).?I'll change the bg color.

Glad you like the different bg...there are five versions there, though, and you can always copy-paste that greyscale bitmap and change the blending mode to see any other effect. I just happened to like these.
As for seeing the color differences, um...I have a good monitor for color? I have a low-end pro (EIZO ColorEdge CD210W), not a business class and I just love it.

The gold background image is created by blending a greyscale version of the original with a solid gold rectangle. There are five versions, because there are five greyscale bitmaps you can turn on, each has a different blending mode. Turn off the current one, turn on a different one, see what you like!
To back up... I took the greenish texture, made a copy and then set the saturation down to 0 so it would be grey scale. I made a solid gold rectangle and placed the greyscale texture above it and experimented with different blending modes. Since more than one blending mode produced a pleasing result, I duplicated the greyscale texture a few times and set each one to a different blending mode. Only one can be visible at a time, because blending modes will interact with each other. You might want to duplicate the greyscale texture again, and just work through all the blending modes, just to see what they all do and if there's one choice you like better. I didn't make a version for every blending mode that looked good, just a few.
Or, you could make the canvas and the gold rectangle larger and place the different greyscale bitmaps side-by-side, so you can compare them directly. That might be more useful.
As for your monitor, some can be calibrated with external devices, some can't. I opted to get a good monitor, but I haven't kept it calibrated. You'd search for ''monitor calibration'' or variations on that.

Having just upgraded from LR 2.4 to LR 3.5 as Administrator, I am unable to select any camera profile except one listed as ''Beta'' when logged on as a User.?The Adobe provided camera profiles that I've come to expect are ALL missing.
It appears that Adobe provided camera profiles have been installed at C;\Documents and Settings\All Users\... and NONE are located at C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\...
Is this expected installation behaviour?
Shouldn't the camera profiles be located at some other location that allows anyone logging on to my computer to see ALL Adobe provided camera profiles?
How do I fix this problem so that ALL that log on can see the Adobe provided camera profiles?
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Lightroom 2.5 Upgrade fails to install...The LR installer should install all the profiles for all supported cameras.
Profiles are selectable in Develop module from the camera calibration tab while working with RAW files.
The only profiles that will be displayed will be the ones specific to the camera model for the file selected.
Profiles for other cameras and models will not be displayed.
No profiles are selectable or displayed while working with jpeg, psd or tiff files.

There is no full support for your camera (a 7D) yet, (see here for the full list from which your camera is conspicuously missing) which is why you only see a beta profile. I'm sure in the next update LR will get full profile support for it.

My recent purchase of the Canon EOS 7D generated the ''Beta'' profile based on the fact that Adobe has published a camera profile for this particular Canon model.?I was however to produce such a profile for this particular camera via Xrite's Color Checker Passport.

We have been testing IE8 in our department and I needed to pose a question to the Acrobat Reader forum. I have since found the resolution. Before doing that I had to uninstall IE8 and take it back to IE7. I could get to adobe.com OK, but when I clicked on the support link to get to the Forums, Internet Explorer V 8 never fully displayed the page. There were items downloading that never downloaded and I finally had to use Task Manager to close the IE8 Windows. I did this several times before returning to IE7 just to get to the Acrobat Forums.
Are there some settings that need to be changed. I tried compatibility mode and that didn't work.

I have a problem with ENCORE CS4 related to PCM encoding. Settings in the project I set up the PCM. I also set up the export settings set to PCM. But when it has finished transcoding and when I look in the ''MediaInfo'' tells me that the audio in video is AC3 not the PCM. Someone knows how to solve this problem? The video i shoot is 1920x1080 25p, PCM audio,....

What transcode presets do you use? Most of them include transcoding the audio, so you would have to create a custom preset if you don't want that to happen on your file....

Is it possible to get a CSS file for the UI elements we built in our Catalyst Project? In the code view of Fc it looks like all the styles are in-line to the elements.
I'm in talk with our Flex dev team to see if they can use some (if not the entire) of the flex code that is generated by the Fc project in product dev.

This is not a feature in Catalyst today.
However, Flash Builder (as of Flex Builder 3) already has this functionality for extracting inline css into a stylesheet.
You can see the documentation for this here:

So you should be able to create css for the project after importing into builder.

Seems like something is not working in Cs4 Illustrator with Snow Leopard. Can someone give it a try to verify.
When I print to my Epson 3800 from Illust. It's not matching the same image printed via PS Cs4. ( It should if you follow a controlled workflow--which I do)
At first thought it was a color management issue, but everything is synchronized via Bridge, and I am using the same print settings, paper profiles , etc in both apps.
I then tried saving as a pdf in Illustrator. Same thing is occuring. Seems like the profile is not ''sticking''.
I did not have this issue before Snow Leopard.
If I open the Illustrator created PDF via Photoshop, then everything is ok....what is happening?
( have the newest drivers from Epson)

I have resorted to saving as eps from Illustrator and then creating a PDF from the eps using distiller. Then the profile for images seem to be recognized. Otherwise if I save as pdf directly from Illustrator to pdf, images are too overexposed--as are colors too light. (same issue occurs if directly printing via Illust,)
My employer switched from Adobe Reader 7 to 8.?I used the snapshot tool all of the time.?Now when I use it, when I paste into word, it is always smaller than when I copied it.?When I adjust the size in word it becomes blurry.?Any suggestions to get the size I copied from PDF to be the same size in word?

Try to set the options of your snapshot tool back to standard. If this doesn't work, take a look at the properties of the word document. Maybe there's an option that makes the page appear +/- 90鎺?
I am running Vista (letest SP's and updates) and an Intel Quad core @ 2.33 (or so), 4 gb RAM.
Using PE7, I have been unable to complete a project.?I import 2-60 minute HDV tapes via firewire and using PE7 I splice them together, put in a menu and add in a few chapters.?I then start the burn process which takes my quad cores up to 98% of their processing potential and tells me it is going to take 44 hours to complete the project?Typically it won't even make it to the burn phase before it gives me a ''buffer overrun'' error and shuts eveything down. I've even shut all other processes down in an attempt to complete a project, but it does not help.
Seems straightforward enough - capture, a little editing and burn, but it doesn't work.?Am i missing something???Rendering beforehand was mentioned in another forum as a way to make the project more manageable - what is rendering??Should I be doing it??If so, how??

I recommend you use the default project preset. (Although there are two sizes listed, they produce the same size video -- the pixels are just shaped differently.)
