Shape Layers Tool.

I experience the following problem in Photoshop CS4:

When drawing any shape layer being in 100% (zoom) the edges of the shape end up in between pixels creating semi transparent pixels on the edges. Then I have to zoom in and adjust all the shape points to be exactly on the edge of the pixels.

In the previous versions of Photoshop drawing any shape layer being in 100% put the shape lines always on the edge of the pixels and never in between.

I have tried different ''Snap to Grid'' options but still couldn't make it work as it was before.

Thanks for any tips.

Anton.

What you are describing sounds to me like antialiasing which is completely normal. But usually this is only visible at zoom levels higher than actual pixels.

I can't replicate any difference between CS3 and CS4 myself. Possibly your issue is related to the OpenGL performance preference, but that's not likely.

You describe adjusting the shape layer to align the path with the pixels. This behavior does not correlate with shape layers. Normally when you adjust shape layers, the pixels also move. Are you sure it's a shape layer? Or are you creating a path, making a selection, then filling the path?

One quick test you can try. Save a PDF copy. Then open the PDF in Acrobat. Does the path show pixels now? If so it is not a shape layer.

Sorry, the way I described the issue was probably a bit confusing.

Here's an example (also please see the attached image):

* I want to draw a button, I grab ''Rounded Rectangle Tool''. And being in 100% zoom just draw the shape.

* In CS3 and previous versions, by default in 100% zoom, the edges of the shape was always aligned with pixels and shape looked sharp.

* Right now in CS4, when I am in 100% zoom and doing exact same task, the edges of the shape end up in between the pixels making the button blurry. That means I have to zoom in and adjust the points to alight them with pixels to make the shape sharp, every time I make the button.

Thanks,

Anton.

I just can't seem to replicate your problem.

Maybe you're not making paths? If I click on rounded rectangle, then the Fill pixels option in Control bar, it doesn't make a path. I have an anti-alias option. If I disable that I get no transparent pixels when I draw. But the behavior matches CS3.

Wish I could be of more help on this.

In the options bar at the top of workspace (when the rounded rectangle shape tool is selected), click the shape option fly out menu, and then check ''snap to pixels'' (nice posted graphic by the way, clever).

Thanks, J Maloney

That worked perfectly!

Anton.

There's another discussion about this, with some deeper explanation if anyone wants to read it:
