Hey gang,
Got a problem over here I was hoping I could get a hand with. My Computer class is learning Adobe Illustrator and we've run into a problem, when we export a file as an EMF or PNG and put it into Microsoft Word it looks alright, but when printed it comes out blurred. The problem is only happening on certain computers, we're all exporting the same files, but the students who's files are larger are printed blurred and contorted. The clear EMFs are 80-90 kilobytes and the ones who are blurry are generally over a Megabyte though they contain essentially the same work.
My teacher is offering a huge extra credit bonus for who ever can solve this, so pwease get back to me as soon as you can before someone else figures it out!
Thanks.
Blurred exported imageVampire,
Obviously, there is a profound difference between contents of the files. Probably, it is impossible to guess what it is.
The key must be found in one of the large files.
Do you have a small one or a large one? If you have a large one, you may link to it here so someone may take a look.
I am still with 10 so I may not be able to see the full contents, but I am sure it will be done: challenges are always welcome.
Blurred exported imageWMF files beyond 1MB when the others are 90 kB? That doesn't sound right to begin with. Providing some examples should shed more light on the matter. My guess is, that something causes a different conversion of the elements in the files and then they are not compatible with Office...

Until you post a sample Illustrator file we can only guess. My best guess is that the larger file was created with a higher raster effect setting. Find this setting under Effect%26gt;Document Raster Effects Settingsé–³?/p>
Edit: Couldn't figure out how to get the file up in here.
Any help pwease?
Vampire,
The simplest ways are to:
a) Upload the file(s) to a website you have access to and link to it, or
b) Use Attach Files at the bottom of the posting window.
Are your ''placed'' images in Word the same Dimensions? If your class is exporting/saving the same files from Illustrator, but at different target sizes (dimensions), then perhaps the files are too small to start off with (resolution) and when they are exported in a bigger dimension, the extrapolation of pixels is softenning the image when printed. (tho you would probably notice some of this on screen too)..Just speculation.
